Youth Initiative – Rafusicul 2011
OnePeople.sg Youth Wing dazzled the crowd at VivoCity Shopping Mall, Amphitheatre once again, at the annual Rafusicul talent competition on 6 August 2011. With aspiring youth singers and dancers battling it out with their heart-thumping dance steps and songs, Rafusicul was truly a showcase of youths’ expression of friendship and harmony.
Youth talent Muhd Amyrul Bin Bazir and his friends captured the audience’s attention through an original rap of how Singaporeans should live together regardless of backgrounds, whereas Bridget Ann Welford and her long-term friend Nadiah Amalina expressed how youths should accept one another through their rendition of the song ‘Born this way’ by Lady Gaga. At the end of the day, it was Mohd Sairi Bin Mohd’s rich voice that swept everyone away, with Taufik Batisah’s ‘Me and Mrs Jones’, beating Charlene Su’s rendition of ‘From a distance’ by Bette Midler by just a narrow margin. Great job Sairi!
For the dance category, 123 Crew was the group which clinched the first prize, with their and professional dance steps, bringing zest to the center stage. Combining songs from the traditional children’s song ‘The More We Get Together’ in Mandarin, Malay Folk song ‘Rasa Sayange’ as well as modern pop songs ‘New Shelom’, ‘Bonafide’ and ‘Clap it Up’, the boys created a unique fusion dance which won over the judges.
Besides the competitors’ dazzling moves and soulful music, guest performances from Studio Wu, Raihan, local budding vocalists ‘Cows On A Boat’ and even Anugerah 2011 Finalist, Shalyza also wowed the audience and kept the crowd entertained. It was truly a gathering of talents, friends, family and supporters. The dazzle and music drew the young and old from the Saturday shopping crowd, and even some international friends who had just spent a day at nearby tourist attraction, Sentosa!
The event was a resounding success as youths from a diversity of cultures got together, engaging in friendly competition and showcasing their talents and passion towards racial harmony.
