Camp Culture for Temasek Secondary School, 20, 21 Jan 2015

 In Learning Journeys, Past Events conducted a learning journey for the Secondary 2 cohort of Temasek Secondary School on 20 and 21 Jan 2015. The students visited various religious sites covering different faiths in Singapore. Some of the places visited were Masjid Khadijah, Maghain Aboth Synagogue, Silat Sikh Temple, San Qing Gong, Kong Meng San Monastery, Toa Payoh Methodist Church and Ba’hai Centre.

The visits allowed the students to understand the key tenets of the different religions. Facilitated discussions also took place after each visit to allow students to reflect on the learning. The session was facilitated by’s staff and volunteer facilitators. At the end of the camp, students were able to understand the broad definition of culture and understand religion as a facet of culture.

Some of the key learning points from the students were –

  • Understanding more about different religions
  • Not stereotyping and/or judging others
  • Respecting religion
  • Respecting people and
  • Understanding more about cultures
