OnePeople.sg celebrated our National Day Celebrations on 8 August 2011 at Christalite Methodist Home. With a 200-resident population, this home is a haven for the socially disadvantaged. As part of our continuous efforts to reach out to the community, we wanted to celebrate our National Day in a meaningful and significant way so as to contribute back to the nation.
We started off with serving afternoon tea-break to the old folks. We had catered for some local delicacies such as vadai, otak-otak and red bean pau. After the hearty refreshments, the old folks were treated to an upbeat community drumming by the youth volunteers from South East Community Development Council. Music was a way to say that harmony can be achieved when we all play as ONE. All of them enjoyed the music and it was heartening when we saw them singing along too! After that, Mr Ramesh Ganeson, Director of OnePeople.sg gave his welcome address to the residents of Christalite Methodist Home. He thanked the home for giving us this opportunity and wished all of them good health, happiness and peace.
Following that, we sang the national anthem and recited the pledge to commemorate our National Day celebrations. We even had a cake to celebrate Singapore’s 46th birthday. Some of the old folks joined us to cut the cake for their contributions to the nation are never forgotten. After that, we distributed the cakes and took the opportunity to interact with the old folks.
It was indeed a sightful moment to see the smiles on their faces. It was heartening for staff of OnePeople.sg as it added to our fulfillment for the good deed. Certainly, a memorable event!
