New Media Workshop

1

This 1-day New Media Course aims to prepare and equip the Inter-Racial and Religious Confidence Circle (IRCC) members with the necessary skills and tools to use New Media and Social Media for their community outreach.

The course held on Saturday, 10 March 2012 was conducted by Ms. Ho Sun, Director of Little Lives who has over 10 years of experience in Information Technology and holds a BSc in Information System & Computer Science from National University of Singapore.

For the first half of the course, participants were taught the importance of the search engine through hands-on exercise of sourcing for racial harmony resources. They will also be introduced to different types of New Media like blogging, collaboration tools, photo and video sharing where they will then understand how New Media can help them reach out to the community.

In the second half of the course, participants were introduced to Social Media and Web 2.0 where they were introduced to the basics of social networking, micro blogging and social bookmarking. During the hands-on session, the participants were guided by the trainers on how to set up their own social networking site where they learnt how they can use sites like this to maximize their effort in reaching out to the community.

19 participants from the IRCC participated in the New Media Course where they found extremely useful and informative. More sessions of New Media Course will be conducted by OnePeople.sg in the upcoming months and we will definitely encourage more community leaders, religious representatives as well as the public to join us and participate in this course to familiarise and get to know more about the new media.
