Raffles Institution Student Initiative ‘INCLUSIVE’

OnePeople.sg has supported the Research Education Service Learning (RESL) project by Raffles Institution through mentorship of students to promote racial harmony initiatives, necessary resources and value-added assistance.

Student leaders from Raffles Institution were mentored to develop a Racial Harmony Resource Package for the National Education Branch. The package which was distributed to all schools under the Ministry of Education comprised of a Bingo activity as well as a poem on racial harmony.

The student leaders also organised a workshop entitled ‘INCLUSIVE’ on 12 July 2011 which aimed to create a better understanding of the different cultures and foster friendship between friends of different races. The title “INCLUSIVE” is a play on the two key words “us” and “live”. The event aims to highlight the importance of changing one’s mindset from ‘me’ to ‘us’ and to ‘LIVE’ harmoniously and peacefully in our society.

24 multi-racial students from Chongfu Primary school attended the workshop which consists of five segments, namely the Bingo Icebreakers, the Racial Harmony Sharing, the Card Game, the Ethnic Games and the illustrated Story Book. The service learning project was a success where participants gained a greater understanding and awareness of racial harmony as well as social etiquette in relating to people of various races through interactive games and activities.
