Mayor's Challenge Shield 2010
|
This year Mayor’s Challenge Shield 2010 was held on 14 March 2010 at SAFRA Tampines with more than forty teams taking part from seven Freekicks Centres. All our boys were keen to participate, and this year, seven teams represented OPSG in the annual football tournament in the various age groups - two teams each for Under-9, Under-11, Under-13 and one team for Under-15.

On the day of the tournament, the boys were in high spirits and were brimming with enthusiasm. A number of parents came along to support their sons in action. The whole arena was filled with energy as both participants and parents cheered excitedly. It was heartwarming to see parents being so involved in their children’s games. They also had a wonderful time with the boys at the games booth and the boys definitely loved the free candy floss and popcorn. Mayor’s Challenge Shield is an annual event not just for the Freekicks boys but also a fun event for the whole family.
The games were filled with laughter and surprises for the junior category. It was the first major tournament for some of the young players and they had no idea what to expect. The tournament, though competitive, were fun for the young partcipants. This was especially so for those who had never taken part in any football tournaments previously. The games for the senior category were tense and competitive. Our Under-15 boys fought fiercely for six games and earned their well-deserved silver medal in the Champions League. All our boys performed exceptionally well this year. We won Bronze for the Under-9 age group in both Champions and Premier Leagues. Our Under-11 boys also won a Bronze medal in the Premier League. Most importantly, our boys gained valuable experience from the tournament.
This year's Mayor’s Challenge Shield was a great success for our Freekicks boys. The weather was scorching and the players, exhausted and drained, but our boys were thrilled at the results! It will surely bring back beautiful memories for all of them. We are definitely looking forward to win more medals in the next Mayor’s Challenge Shield!
