EiE Basic Enhanced Course (10-11 Oct 2013)
Do you know what influences your racial biases and stereotypes?
Are you able to confront your own racial biases and stereotypes? Not many could.
Most of the 30 Polytechnic staff from the five polys who have attended the EiE Basic Enhanced Course on the 10th and 11th Oct have agreed that they are now able to confront their own stereotypes and acknowledge ethnic differences.
The 2 days course included experiential learning which provided a platform for honest, stimulating and open discourse on issues of ethnicity. Through the facilitation, staff are now more competent in dealing with student conflicts.
Some of the lessons learnt are:
I have learnt to take a step forward to recognise cultural differences and ways to address them.
~ Kathleen Yeow (Republic Polytechnic)
Now, I am more aware on what could trigger ethnic tensions.
~ Periya Sundaram (Republic Polytechnic)
Let’s leverage on the diversities among different ethnic groups!
~ Albert Chua (Nanyang Polytechnic)
